Description:

Did you know that the Ontario Science Centre has woodlands and a wetland right in its own backyard? Join us on these guided walks in the Don Valley to learn about the plants and animals that live in and around our wetland ecosystem.

On Nature Walks you learn to identify different species of urban birds, find out about the trees, shrubs and plants that provide shelter and food for wetland inhabitants. You will also learn to appreciate the seasonal changes of a wetland.

Here is just a taste of what you may see:

asters coming into bloom
black-crowned night herons fishing
cottontail rabbits munching on leaves
garter snakes shedding their skins
goldfinches eating thistle seed
monarch butterflies refuelling for their southward migration
painted turtles soaking up the sun
wild grapes ripening
and a young red-tailed hawk learning to hunt.

Nature Walks take place on weekends in June and daily in July and August (weather permitting). The walks are 30 to 45 minutes in duration. Times are listed throughout the building or you can always ask a Host. Meet in the P&G Great Hall on Level B. Hope to see you there!
