Established in 1990, Yellow Dog Music sprang out of the extraordinary teaching methodology of York University Music professor Casey Sokol and his contemporary improvisation class. If such an effective and creative method for training musicians to play, think and communicate ideas worked on University students preparing for careers as musicians, why couldn’t beginning students also experience this innovative approach? Since then, Yellow Dog Music has shaped a generation of musicians who, while developing fundamental musicianship skills, have been shown the excitement of pushing beyond their own imaginations and discovering their personal connection to the music and instruments
