Description: |
The York Academy of Martial Arts offers an outstanding children and youth program which fills the needs of today’s kids, while at the same time keeping the classes fun and exciting. Students in this program develop their bodies through exercises, calisthenics, stretching, and working with their techniques.
The children learn the techniques of Karate: punching, kicking, blocking and striking as well as forms and pre-arranged attack and defense drills. They also learn to apply the concepts of Ju Jitsu: stand up and ground defense, including grappling which emphasizes the balance, timing and technique execution to help kids defend against larger or stronger opponents.
To facilitate and target the assimilation of skills we have broken our program down into 3 specific age categories; 4-6 years, 7-10 years, and 11-15 years which are also broken down further by belt or skill level. This allows for small class sizes and enables instructors to teach to the specific needs of each group and to keep both the information and the training relevant to the students.
Camps are regularily offered during Summer, Christmas break and March break. Registration begins two months in advance of any camp start date.
Each week is based on a theme from a movie, book or program that is popular with the kids. Examples include STAR WARS, SAMURAI JACK, SUPER HEROS or WIZARDS themed weeks with activities, games and a movie (made by the kids) all arranged to fit the theme of the week. |
