Conservation Halton is the community based environmental agency that protects, restores and manages the natural resources in its watershed. Our staff includes ecologists, land use planners, engineers, foresters and educators along with a network of volunteers who are guided by a Board of Directors comprised of municipally elected councillors and appointed citizens.
We are recognized for our stewardship of creeks, forests and Niagara Escarpment lands through science based services and sustainable recreation programs.Much of Conservation Halton’s efforts are focused on protecting the natural environment. This includes water management programs that involve flood protection and warning along with augmenting low flows in creeks during dry periods. Our engineering and planning services help ensure that environmental planning is an integral part of community development. Conservation Halton encourages private landowners to protect natural areas on their lands. This is done through the Hamilton-Halton Watershed Stewardship Program. Source water protection is another very important program of Conservation Halton. Source water protection is simply protecting water resources such as lakes, rivers and groundwater from contamination and overuse. Our ecology services include planning reviews, fisheries, environmental monitoring and natural heritage inventories. These services help us to maintain the health of the watershed. Conservation Halton also manages more than 10,000 acres of natural lands including extensive forests. Our forest management efforts focus on the health and diversity of the forest ecosystem with restoration and tree planting programs. Watershed health is also enhanced through our participation in the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan and Burlington Bay restoration efforts.
