In partnership with the City of Vaughan, the City Playhouse is committed to showcasing professional and community based theatre, performances in dance and music from professional and community based production companies, art exhibitions and multicultural events. Theatre education and Outreach Programs are also part of the City Playhouse mandate - opening our doors and establishing long-term connections with the community.
Theatre Minors: Introduction to Drama AGE: 4 - 6 years Theatre Minors will largely focus on ideas of self discovery, movement, exploration, and using imagination. Each student will learn important listening and communication skills, while being exposed to their first experience with drama. Students will also explore fairy tales, song and dance.
ArtsWorks: Creative Drama & Improvisation AGE: Stage 1: 8 - 12 years Stage 2: 13 -18 years Students will learn creative drama and improvisation techniques. Some of the techniques taught include mime, movement, action narration, choral speaking, readers theatre, collective character, mask, and clown. It’s through exploration and learning that students will work towards a collective creation that will be showcased at the end of the session.
Musical Theatre Workshop 1 & 2 AGE: Workshop 1: 8 - 12 years Workshop 2: 13 - 18 years Students will learn theatrical skills, including blocking, projecting, character development, and stage timing. Other areas that the course will focus on is the importance of team work and building self-confidence. Students will also have the opportunity to sing, dance and participate in the creation of their own sets with a complete musical production at the end of the course.
